Not-so-Tiny Telephone

Rotary telephones are great fun - this project was for a local recording studio and plays songs when you enter a number.

Lamp Brace

Originally intended as a temporary repair, this quick hack came together nicer than I expected. A beloved desk lamp broke when a little too much force split the hinge where it joined the upper tube, leaving the lamp head dangling.

We worked out what angle she usually kept it at and fixed the joint at that position. A bit of leftover blue acrylic, some plugs cut with a hole saw, screws, and some zip-ties…it's held for over a year!

The bike formerly known as 019

One of my few public projects, I decorated a San Mateo bike share bike as a unicorn to help promote the system: If you found the unicorn bike and shared a photo via social media, you’d get ride credits. With a limited budget of <$25 I added vinyl eyes, adapted a toy horn, and went through several version of the ears to optimize jauntiness and minimize flop. To prevent impalement, a frangible base let the horn to break away if it was impacted. While the San Mateo bike share system is no more, the unicorn bike still rides on in our hearts.

SpaceBar

My co-worker Anna requested a Moon-themed bar for her birthday party, and this was the result. A quick mod rather than an ground-up project, I refreshed an existing play table and made as set of taller legs so it could be used as a bar. It’s been a hit at both events we’ve taken it to, and currently lives in my front room.

Fun fact: Futura was the font we sent to the Moon.
